Race to the Primary
4/3/2008
Greetings and thank you for taking the time to click on my blog.
Today – April 3rd – marks the two-month countdown to the Primary that will be held here in New Mexico on June 3rd. It’s hard to believe how quickly the last several months have flown by. We are in a tight race to June 3rd and currently running against 4 other candidate for the Republican nomination. Early polling tells us that the 2nd Congressional race is going to be determined by a largely undecided faction of voters. My campaign and I are taking nothing for granted and welcome the challenge. New Mexico is anything but boring.
To mark the two-month sprint ahead, we are proud to be opening our second office today in Las Cruces. We are celebrating this evening with an Open House at our new location, on Telshor next door to the Las Cruces News Bulletin.
As the campaign moves forward, we will continue to run a positive, issue based campaign. And, we will stay focused on the issues that matter to you – National Security, Immigration Reform, Economic Stability, and our shared desire to protect our Conservative Family Values. Check out the ISSUES corner of my website for a more thorough description of where I stand on the issues.
My team and I are going to be all over the southern New Mexico during the next 59 days. We will be reaching out to you in a variety of ways, and hope that you will take advantage of bending our ear and getting to know us.
I believe in the American Dream.
I ask for your prayers for our military and their families.
I enjoyed closing out January 08’ with a strong week of campaigning through Lincoln, Guadalupe, Chaves, Socorro, and Valencia counties, where we met with Republican leaders, newspapers, and potential voters. The details of last week are in my previous blog, and I hope you have time to read them as well.
My campaign took no time kicking February off – we spent Friday stomping in and around Otero County and then dropping in for an interview with The Alamogordo Daily News. You can read about the interview by clicking on http://www.alamogordonews.com/news/ci_8143384.
Saturday was an equally-well spent day. We started the morning off in Valencia County, breakfasting with some party activists. From there, I was off to Grants, where I had lunch at La Ventana with a group of 11 dedicated individuals who are hard at work trying to reorganize the GOP leadership in Cibola County. The group was extremely energized, which was exciting to see as successful campaigning really comes down to you, the constituents, and your involvement.
Meredith and I, with Riggs and Klickitat asleep on the floor, watched the Super Bowl with white knuckles. After some much-appreciated family time on Sunday – family is always a priority on Sunday – it’s off to the races again this week. Speaking engagements include: a Republican Community-Interest Roundtable focused on Healthcare on Tuesday evening in Carlsbad; a luncheon with the Republican Women of Otero County on Wednesday; and a Speakers Forum on Saturday with the Dona Ana Republican Central Committee. The second half of the week – Thursday through Saturday – will be spent talking to the press and meeting with the residents of Dona Ana and Luna Counties. I am geared up and look forward to these meetings, and having the opportunity to share my conservative platform with you; but, most especially, having the opportunity to hear from you and your specific concerns as parents, students, employees, veterans and citizens of Southern New Mexico. Our website is an open forum for sharing your concerns, so please feel free to do so.
Welcome to my blog, and thanks for checking in. January has been a great month. My campaign team is in place and our headquarters is up and running in Ruidoso. Feel free to stop by 2724 Sudderth Drive and check us out next time you are at the Starbucks.
I'm busy chris-crossing the 2nd Congressional District, trying to win
your vote and having a blast doing it. Yesterday, Tuesday the 29th, I
started the day off with Congressman Pearce as a guest of Tim
Keithley's New Mexico in the Morning Show. We talked about the
President’s State of the Union address. From there I was off to
Guadalupe County to meet with Republican party leaders – it was a great
meeting and I got a better feel for the local issues that residents
face on a day-to-day basis. From Guadalupe, I pressed on to Roswell to
meet with the editor and staff of the Roswell Daily Record. After
discussing my conservative platform with the paper, I spent the evening
in three separate meetings with Roswell Republican county leaders to
talk about my agenda for Southern New Mexico.
After a long and successful day, I rolled into The Flying W Diamond Ranch with the stars clear in view.
