Ruidoso, NM: Former New Mexico Governor Garrey Carruthers announced Saturday that he is supporting Ed Tinsley to replace Steve Pearce, as New Mexico's congressman for the Second Congressional District.
"I am pleased today to lend my full support to Ed Tinsley's candidacy for Congress," Carruthers stated. "Ed's wide-ranging business experience, consistent conservative values and extensive knowledge of the issues facing New Mexico, make him the only candidate in the race that will effectively represent the voters of New Mexico's Second Congressional District from day one.
"In what are very uncertain economic times, we need a congresssman who doesn't require on-the-job training and isn't a career politician. We need representation in Washington with the kind of real-work experience Ed Tinsley possesses. Ed understands what it takes to be successful in business and his more than thirty years spent ranching in southern New Mexico illustrates the dedication he has for the land and people he so strongly desires to work hard for in Washington, "Governor Carruthers stated.
"Governor Carruthers has admirably dedicated his life to public service and making New Mexico a wonderful place to live and raise a family," Ed Tinsley stated. "His past serves to our state, and present dedication as dean to his students at New Mexico State University, are a testament to his character and integrity as a public servant. I am honored to have his support, and will take to heart his advice in his role as Senior Advisor on my campaign as I continue to meet voters and campaign hard throughout New Mexico's Second Congressional District."
Governor Carruthers is a businessman and long term university educator and administrator. He has served as Special Assistant to the US Secrety of Agriculture from 1974 to 1975 and director of the New Mexico Water Resources Research Institute at New Mexico State University. Mr. Carruthers was State Chair of the Republican Party of New Mexico from 1977 to 1979, Assistant Secretary of the Interior for Land and Resources from 1981 to 1984, Governor of New Mexcio from 1987 to 1991, and President and CEO of the Cimarron Health Plan from 1993 to 2003. Carruthers has a Ph.D. in economics from Iowa State University. |
