Tinsley on National Security |
9-11 was a shock to America and our sense of security. It was a wake up call as to our vulnerability in this world, and the enemies that seek to destroy our nation. No American wants to live through another such assault. I pledge to protect our nation’s security.
To ensure that the War against Terrorism stays off of our homeland:
- America must have the best funded, equipped, and supported military in the world. This means bolstering the number of our armed forces, modernizing our weapons systems, spending our defense budget wisely, taking better care of our military personnel, and honoring our nation’s veterans.
- New Mexico’s military bases, personnel and national laboratories are critical to our military strength and must continue to be funded and improved.
- America must expand our security capabilities and deterrence mechanisms to prevent rogue countries and organizations from developing and deploying Weapons of Mass Destruction.
- America must ensure the intelligence community is focused, accurate, and accountable in its efforts to identify terrorist groups, their origins, and activities.
- America must defeat al-Qaeda.
- America must better train, coordinate, and equip state and local governments/law enforcement agencies to handle future emergencies or terrorist attacks.
- America must secure our nation’s borders. The Department of Homeland Security must facilitate more effective coordination among: Customs and Border Protection; Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE); Coast Guard; state and local governments.
