Capitan's Tinsley Announces for Second Congressional District |
From Reports Article Launched: 11/08/2007 10:39:54 PM MST Capitan's Ed Tinsley has announced his intention to run for Congress. Capitan resident Ed Tinsley III announced Thursday that he will seek the Republican nomination for Congress for New Mexico's Second District.
The seat is being vacated by Steve Pearce, who will run for the U.S. Senate. Tinsley, who is the former Chairman of the National Restaurant Association, owner of the K-BOB'S steakhouse brand, and a local rancher, has highlighted immigration re-form and border security, health care, small business and family tax relief, and the safety of Americans as four priority issues for the district. A formal announcement is planned for Nov. 19.
"I want to take my experience in ranching, the hospitality industry, and the oil and gas business and put it to work for the people of the Second District," Tinsley said.
"I will ensure that our values are represented and protected in Washington, D.C. My most recent experience as the Chairman of the National Restaurant Association gave me unparalleled experience in sitting down at the negotiating table with lawmakers to make sure the voices of my constituents were heard, from the small business owner to the working mother in our restaurants.
"I understand what makes our district so near and dear in the hearts of Southern New Mexicans: from the oil and gas fields of the southeast, to the tourism and hospitality industry of the Mountains, to Las Cruces, one of the fastest growing cities in the Southwest, to the rich farming lands in the lower Rio Grande Valley, to our forest lands throughout the district, and ranching. I would consider it an honor to represent every corner of this district."
Tinsley is a member of the National Restaurant Association, serving as an officer since 2004.
"I became close friends with restaurant operators across the country, who are living proof that the American dream is alive and well, but not without challenges," he said.
"It helped me understand more about what it takes to get things done in Washington, or sometimes how to keep things from getting done in Washing-ton. I did learn that if you are not at the table in Washington, you will soon be on their menu." "He has done an outstanding job representing New Mexico and our industry," said Carol Wight, CEO of the New Mexico Restaurant Association.
Ed and his wife, Meredith, operate an active cattle ranch four miles north of Capitan, the Flying W Diamond, where they hope to build an equestrian subdivision. They are involved in oil and gas operations in New Mexico and commercial real estate in Texas. |
